What causes sleep anxiety?

TDW - Hypnotherapy Harrogate information on sleep anxiety

Ever had that panicky feeling when you are in bed, supposed to be asleep because you have something important to do the next day, and you need to sleep but you just can't?

The more you worry about getting to sleep, the more difficult it seems to sleep. An all too familiar cycle has been set up.

Your fight or flight response has been triggered by the stress hormones racing through your body. These stop you relaxing into sleep mode and so you lie awake, tossing and turning, getting more worried every time you look at the time and see the hours racing past.

Usually you fall into an exhausted sleep not long before you have to get up. This leaves you tired and irritable for the rest of the day. Not ideal when you have an interview / presentation / performance.

The human body and brain can only cope with a certain amount of sleep deprivation before they start to be affected.

Clumsiness, reduced reaction times, blurry vision, headaches ... the list goes on.

If this carries on, a negative sleep cycle is set up and an ongoing disturbed pattern ensues.

Apart from physically resting, sleep is vital for mental 'venting'. Venting is the discharge of emotions attached to the days' memories. Stress is released as memories are processed during REM sleep. If this process is shortened, stress and tension build up causing anxiety and eventually depression. Get Help Before This Happens.

At TDW Hypnotherapy we take you on a journey of discovery to find out what the underlying reasons for the sleeplessness could be. Then we draw up a plan to tackle them in a wholistic way. There is rarely just one cause. Hypnosis is one of the tools used to get to the root of any anxiety.

If your sleep pattern is being disrupted, contact us today.
